About
Hi, and thanks for visiting DragonLyre Publishing, the writing home of Richard S. Freeland.
I’ve been playing around at the writing game for some time now, while running a full-time garden design business. Over the years, I’ve published a few short stories on sites like Fool-Motley (a fantasy site, now defunct, not to be confused with the investment site Motley Fool) and Dark Fire Fiction. I’ve also published “Equinox – Six Declinations”, an anthology of horror, fantasy, thriller (and just plain strange) stories. You can get it for the Kindle a the Kindle Store, or from Smashwords for all formats, or right here at DragonLyre for .pdf.
Lately, I’ve decided to kick it up a notch. Time to get SERIOUS about this writing thang! As Andy Dufresne (the protagonist in Stephen King’s great story “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” said, “Get busy living, or get busy dying”. (Or was that quote from the movie version?).
Anyway. I wanted to make my writing available to more readers (and maybe make a few bucks in the process), so I decided to learn all I could about the self-publishing and ebook publishing process. I started DragonLyre as a means to promote and sell my fiction and digital products, and provide info to fellow writers and readers about electronic publishing, writing, genre fiction, and other subjects. This is a wonderful, exciting experiment. Hope it goes well.
More? I’m also a registered landscape architect specializing in site, landscape and garden design, and have been writing in the landscape and garden niche for around 3 years. I’ve also write in the travel and outdoor recreation niches. If you want more info about designing, building and maintaining your own Landscape for Living, visit my Potsibilities site.
I’ve published articles on Suite101 and through Constant Content. I also have another web site, Jekyll Island Family Adventures, a destination travel site on Jekyll Island, Georgia (my home-away-from-home).
Some say I’m a pretty good singer/songwriter (songwriter, maybe. You’ll really have to stretch to believe the good singer bit). I like to travel, hike, fish, and spend time with my wife Martha, my son Josh and his wife Vickie, and my younger son Scott. I like to cook, too – now if only I could find someone to eat it…
If you’d like to correspond, I’ll have a contact form up soon. For now, you can reach me at @cheanque on Tweeter.
Kindest regards, and enjoy your visit!
‘Nough said,
Richard
